Bertha is Back

Last Thursday, a week after we stranded in Senzani, we were ready to hit the road again! We had a wonderful week at Mich’s and we felt sad to say goodbye.
Mich and his colleagues helped us and Bertha back on the road and we are very very thankful that we actually broke down and met them!

Funny thing was that after all the bits and pieces were back in, there were two things left…oops! Nobody had an idea where they should be. So I made a picture and posted it on the Landrover forum. Within an hour we had 4 replies! (it was a plug for the gearbox if you through water). Good to know we have internet back-up now!

We were a little bit (actually very) nervous to drive with Bertha, but our Landrover experts assured us she would do fine now. Just keep an eye on this and that ;)

And guess what, she did so well! She takes it slow on the hills, and with an average speed of about 60 km an hour we made it all the 250 kilometers to Dedza. A small town in Malawi, famous because of the pottery. The radio was working as well, a big relief. We put our mp3-cd on shuffle and Bertha seems to have a strong preference for Elvis, Faithless and…Hazes (Dutch singer). Haha, well, she’s in control ;)

In Dedza we stayed at the brand-new campsite. We were the first campers ;) We enjoyed the beautiful view of the sun setting behind the hills, while enjoying a cold beer and great food. Finally, our journey had begun!

The following day we visited the pottery (like real tourists) and slowly took off to Lilongwe. And yes, still she was doing fine! She needs a little bit of starting up in the morning (it’s a diesel of course), but once she is going, she is really going!

In Lilongwe we needed to fill her up, but…no diesel to be found anywhere in Lilongwe! No worries. We’re not in a hurry. We drove to Mabuya Camp, a chilled backpackers place.

Today we treated Bertha to a manicure and pedicure, meaning we greased and oiled her, did some adjustments and had some bonding time ;) Rest of the day we relaxed at the pool.

After the stressful, hectic and unexpected ending at Majete, we slowly get back the feeling of relaxing...

Tomorrow we see if there’s any diesel and then we continue to Zambia!

With Love,
Amy and Tinus
